Unstucking Transformations: Blockers & Values Deck

A playful deck to explore why transformations get stuck, which leadership values unlock progress, and what small actions to try next.

This deck helps teams and leaders playfully explore why transformations get stuck and which leadership values unlock progress.

Use it in workshops, retrospectives, leadership offsites, or coaching sessions to:

  • Reveal hidden blockers and limiting patterns
  • Connect each blocker to a helpful leadership value
  • Spark discussion, commitments, and experiments

Simple way to play

  1. Shuffle all cards.
  2. Pick 1–2 Blocker cards and place them in the middle.
  3. Draw 1–3 Value or Action cards and discuss:
    • Which value(s) would help most here?
    • What concrete action could we try this week?
  4. Capture 1 small commitment per round.

More ways to play

  • Blocker Matching: Lay out several blockers, then draft value cards to "match" them.
  • Story Rounds: Draw 1 blocker + 1 value, tell a short real story that fits, then reflect.
  • Speed Coaching: In pairs, one person brings a real challenge; the other pulls cards to coach.
  • Do the Opposite: Draw a value card and ask: What happens if we do the opposite for a week?

Cards are intentionally short and provocative—designed to trigger reflection, not give all the answers.

Leadership Transformation

These cards turn values into tiny, do-able moves. Draw 1–2 cards and connect them to today’s work: What’s the smallest version of this we could try this week? Treat everything as an experiment, not a promise.

Blockers: Why We’re Stuck

Use these cards to name what’s really blocking the transformation—under the surface. Draw 1–2 cards and ask: Where does this show up for us? How do we contribute to it? Don’t try to fix it yet; just notice and map the pattern.

Hero Leader SyndromeDecisions orbit one person; everyone waits for the hero instead of owning the change together.

Values: What Unlocks Progress

These cards describe leadership values that unstick transformations. Draw 1–3 cards next to a blocker and ask: If we truly lived this value for 30 days, what might shift? Then design 1 small experiment to test it.

Reflection & “Do the Opposite”

These cards spark meta-reflection and playful reversals. Use them to pause, zoom out, or flip your default behavior: What happens if we deliberately try the opposite for a short time?

Do the Opposite WeekPick a default habit, flip it for 7 days, and see what happens.
